No Honey for my Baby!!!

Most of you know that Honey is a great natural ingredient that can ease your cought.
Since we cannot give babies any medicine you would think that giving a spoon full of honey would do the trick right??? NOT!!!!!

Giving honey to your infant before the age of 12 months can be dangerous.
Botulinum spores are bacteria that can be found in honey. For adults Botulinum spores will normaly cause no harm due to the high acidity in the stomach.

The intestinal tracts of babies are immature. Once botulinum spores enter their systems, they can produce a substance called botulinus toxin. After release, this toxin is absorbed into the blood stream through the intestinal tract, causing paralysis by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction.

Some of the symptoms may include:
  • Constipation (caused by a slowing down of the intestinal tract )
  • Listlessness
  • Weakness
  • Floppiness
  • Weak cry
  • Poor head control

I hope I haven't scared you away from introducing honey to your little one's plate.
Honey is great energie booster, immunity system builder and a remedie for many health issues.
Be safe and wait til your little one is old enough to benefit from honey's wonders.

Love,
